Kids in Kugluktuk, Nunavut were introduced to the benefits of healthy eating in a fun way in March.
Kugluktuk Northern store employee Jessica McConkey took the fourth grade students from Jimmy Hikok Ilihakvik Elementary School on a tour of the store to introduce them to the Health Happy program . She highlighted the program’s signage, taught lessons on the benefits of Health Happy products and treated the students to a Health Happy snack.
Northern and NorthMart stores have rolled out the Health Happy program as a means of making healthy food products more accessible to people in northern communities. Overall, 300 to 800 new Health Happy items that contain one to four specific attributes contributing to healthier eating – including lower sugar, salt, fat, and caffeine content – have been added to each store’s assortment, depending on store size.
