Despite a bitterly cold day, people in Fort Liard, NT felt the Christmas cheer and holiday spirit as the floats of the annual Fort Liard Christmas Parade passed by their homes last December 18.
The Christmas Parade is organized by the Fort Liard Fire Department and the Acho Dene Koe First Nation Band. The parade also had a contest for the best decorated float entries, and Northern Store was happy to donate gift cards as prizes for the winners of the contest.

On the day of the parade, the fire department opened its doors to welcome anyone who wanted to decorate their floats for the parade indoors, away from the harsh cold weather. Besides the community members, the RCMP, the Fire Department and the Northern Store also participated in the parade. Throughout the parade, the floats honked their horns and gave out candies, helping spread the Christmas cheer and spirit.
“The best part about participating in the parade is seeing the big smiles on everyone – young and old – as we drove by, and knowing that you brightened their day just a little by spreading a bit of Christmas cheer their way,” said Greg Wilson, Northern Manager.
After the parade, the floats went to Fort Liard Recreation Centre, where everyone was treated to hot chocolate provided by the Hamlet of Fort Liard and the contest winners were announced.
