Eighty children from the local school in Black Lake, SK had a chance to visit with Santa Claus at the Black Lake Northern Store’s first-ever Kids’ Day.
During this event, the children, who are in Kindergarten to Grade 3 at Father Porte Memorial Dene School, each got an opportunity to take photos with Santa (played by Dennis Tiessen, Grocery Manager from Stony Rapids Northern, who also supported the event) and to pick out a gift and a treat bag.

The idea came into reality through the store’s manager, Kavirasa Kanagaiah, talking to staff, teachers and the school’s Vice Principal Sharon Cook, who wanted to do something for the children for the holidays.
The store staff had created the treat bags containing candy, chips and healthy snacks like apples and bananas, and wrapped up toys to give as gifts to the children.
“It is important to see Christmas through the kids’ eyes, and this year we had a fun-filled and a successful celebration with the kids at the Northern Store. This is all due to the collaboration with the community and the school,” said Northern store Manager Kanagaiah.
