Clyde River is located on the eastern coast of Baffin Island’s Patricia Bay, off Clyde Inlet, an arm of Davis Strait in the Qikiqtaaluk Region of Nunavut. The community is located in the fiord landscape of the Baffin Mountains, which are part of the Arctic Cordillera mountain range.
Clyde River’s Inuktitut name is Kangitugaapik which means ‘nice little inlet’. It is home to 1,053 residents (as per 2016 Census, Statistics Canada), 95% of whom are Inuit and who speak Inuktitut and English. This traditional Inuit community is known for its preservation of the Inuit culture where to this day the tradition of hunting, fishing, sewing and other Inuit cultural activities still continue and are taught to youth.
The community is accessible by air through the Clyde River Airport with regular flights to Iqaluit and Pond Inlet.
