St. Theresa Point's Bannock Festival brings the whole community together to celebrate with games and activities.
It started with bannock 38 years ago, but St. Theresa Point, MB’s festival has become an annual tradition to bring the community together to celebrate and enjoy games and activities.
The festival first started as a way to welcome families back from their trap lines and to celebrate the end of the school year for the community’s children.
This year, the community’s Band members generously donated a three-bedroom house, and also worked with the Northern store to set up a $10,000 bingo.
The Northern store was more than happy to take part in the festival and also donated enough furniture to fully furnish the three-bedroom house! The crowd cheered when they saw the donation, and many residents also took the time to personally thank the store manager.
Community resident Joseph Mason was the lucky winner of the house, while Councillor Vernon Monias took home the $10,000 bingo jackpot.
“The festival was a huge success and was a good change for our community. To see everyone out together and safely celebrating brings about a sense of hope and happiness amidst these trying times,” said St. Theresa Point Store Manager, Murray Thomas. “Our store and staff was happy to offer donations used as gifts and prizes and brought about plenty of smiles on many faces. Seeing our community full of joy makes me happy to have been part of it!”
Neighboring communities of Garden Hill, Wasagamack, and Red Sucker Lake were also invited to join in the fun and celebrations.
