Rossville Northern helped bring food and relief to dozens of families in the community through some heartfelt donations.
The store recently partnered with the Helen Betty Osborne Ininiw Education Resource Centre (HBOIERC) to feed 50 struggling families in the Manitoba community that have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The store and the resource centre have worked together several times in the past and this is not the exception.
On May 13, the partnership made it possible to donate the food hampers containing several diet staples and other healthy options, including eggs, bread, milk, oats, and a chocolate milk treat for the children.
The idea was the result of a fruitful discussion between Rossville Northern Store manager Jason Winter and the community’s School Principal Charlene Throop. It took into consideration single-income homes with children and extended families.
The ongoing pandemic has been increasingly challenging for families, so the households receiving the food were ecstatic and extremely thankful as they were relieved their children would not remain hungry.
“We wanted to reach out and help the community members, and let them know we are here for them. These are challenging times, and it is important for us to stick together and look out for one another. It is fantastic to see someone smile and know that today would not be a day that their kids would go hungry. We are committed to continue making these small gestures to move forward together as a community,” shared a grateful Winter.
The positive impact and reception have inspired the Northern store and the HBOIERC to collaborate once again, sometime in June.
