A team of RCMP officers with fruit hampers in hand are ready to brighten the day of elders in the community.
Community members need to support each other during challenging times – and thanks to a helpful gesture from the local RCMP, food hampers were delivered quickly to Elders in need.
With in-store shopping temporarily unavailable to the general public in Stony Rapids, SK, elder residents – who are used to visiting the store on a regular basis – are at a disadvantage. An alternative method in development is a delivery service, yet there are limited shippers in the area.
When Director of Sales and Operations, Doug Anderson, shared Northern Stony Rapids’ concerns with community leaders, they were happy to offer a helping hand. On an off-day, Sunday April 19, Sergeant Eric Desfosses and his team lent their time and vehicle to deliver some goodies to the doorsteps of verified isolated seniors.
Twenty-two baskets of fruits and snacks were prepared and delivered. Items included healthy fruits such as oranges, apples, plums, grapes, and bananas. The baskets were even personalized with the recipient’s favorite treats – some baskets had mints, while others included toffee or sugar-free candies.
“With one confirmed COVID-19 case, some elders have isolated themselves and are relying on family members to do the shopping. We created the fruit baskets because we wanted to make sure they were eating healthy,” explained Jennifer Benoit, Northern Stony Rapids Store Manager.
“We are a part of the Stony Rapids community, so if there is anyone who needs assistance, we would be pleased to help. We want to make sure all are taken care of,” she added.
