Executive Director Stephane Joron and kids have fun at camp.
Youth from five Manitoba communities engaged in stimulating activities and enjoyed good company at Garden Hill Summer Camp this past summer – all thanks to Pathway Camp Ministries’ effort and support from The North West Company’s Healthy Horizons Foundation.
The camp aimed to give young participants a holistic experience, where they could enjoy fun and excitement and be true to their age. Last summer, 80 kids aged 7-12 from communities across the province came together and bonded over sports, origami, cup stacking, parachute games, skits and other activities.
The event even connected with a health clinic to address a health concern, and with a counsellor and an elder in the community to enrich the children’s overall trip to Garden Hill. Parents and participants all left the camp with many happy memories and self-made souvenirs.
“Without The North West Company’s Healthy Horizons Grant of $2,500, Garden Hill's superb camp would not have been the same. The bonding between the kids and several adults was so amazing,” Pathway Camp Ministries’ Executive Director Stephane Joron shared.
“The most remarkable moment of the week was on the last day, when the kids asked us to write their names with permanent markers on our shirt and we did the same on their Pathway shirts. This moment was very emotional because the kids tend to cry (us too) and they did not want us to leave.”
