Students in Sitka had the chance to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a fun and sweet activity.
Students, parents and local leaders in Sitka, AK gathered for a fun, educational Valentine’s event in February, topped off with a sweet treat.
Keet Gooshi Heen Elementary School and the Alaska Commercial Company (ACC) Lakeside Sitka proudly presented Family Night on February 12, a lovely and heartwarming event for families in the area.
Youth education is important in maintaining a positive lifestyle and preparing for the future, and the school’s staff and students enthusiastically presented about their Social Emotional Learning Curriculum, which teaches critical social competencies necessary for academic and life success such as resiliency, empathy, self-management, and responsible decision-making skills.
ACC Lakeside Branch Manager Vince Winter and Produce Manager Michael Fernandez hosted a Strawberry Dipping Table at the event. This fun, popular activity let everyone learn some fun facts and health benefits of strawberries while enjoying the chocolate-dipped berries, which were donated by a local seller.
“As a brick-and-mortar retailer we have the opportunity to create a physical community of our loyal customers,” Winter shared. “The store’s investment into the community through social actions will continue to strengthen our footprint in Sitka.”
