Pictured above, the Alaska Commercial Co. (ACC) Sitka team presented a cheque to the St. Michael’s Cathedral church.
When a church in Sitka, AK was denied a $5,000 grant it hoped would help with its dire need for repairs, the Alaska Commercial Co. stepped in to help – and raised more than double that amount.
The ACC Sitka team decided to run a fundraiser for St. Michael’s Cathedral as no other businesses or organizations were able to assist with fundraising for the church’s repairs.
The ACC team had designed contribution cards and sold them to customers at the store registers. The initial goal was to raise up to $500, but they ended up raising a total of $10,948 after matching the community’s contribution.
“We committed to matching all contributions up to $5,000 which was widely praised by the community with mentions on the local radio stations and social media,” says Category Manager Greg Dahl.
The ACC team was happy that it surpassed their goal of raising money for the church and at the same time contributing to a good cause.
