Pictured above is one of the quilts the Aniak Ladies Sewing Group had made for the hometown veterans for Veteran’s Day.
Aniak Jr. Sr. High School students were happy to lend a hand in helping local women make beautiful quilts for veterans.
The students raised $400 by selling nachos that the Alaska Commercial Company generously donated for the fundraising event for Veterans Day, to assist in the purchasing of materials to handmake quilts for the Veteran Quilt Project.
Since 2015, the Alaska Commercial Company in Aniak, AK has been a part of the project by being involved in the high school’s student government.
In 2016, Alaska Commercial Company enlisted the Aniak Ladies Sewing group to create Quilts of Honour for the hometown veterans. Each year the group makes about 5 quilts for the veterans.
“The ladies are already donating their time and love. The funds we supply from fundraisers like this enables us to maintain customer loyalty, network with leaders and invest in our community,” says Store Manager Vince Winter.
