Employees across The North West Company wore orange in support of reconciliation last month.

Orange Shirt Day is held every September to honour the children who survived Residential Schools and remember those who didn’t. It grew out of Phyllis Webstad’s account of her first day as a little girl at a residential school, where her shiny new orange shirt that she loved was taken from her and replaced with the school’s institutional uniform.

September 30 was chosen for Orange Shirt Day because it is the time of year children were taken from their homes to attend residential schools.

Wearing an orange shirt provides an opportunity for First Nations, local governments, schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations to come.

North West is proud to support this day as EVERY CHILD MATTERS!
