Youth in Winnipeg enjoyed a fun afternoon while celebrating Canada Day at the Manitoba Theatre for Young People (MTYP), thanks to support from The North West Company.
The North West Company’s sponsorship made MTYP’s Canada Day event on July 1 possible. Local youth and their families were able to visit The Forks and experience drama-related activities while having fun throughout the afternoon. North West employees and family members also provided volunteer support for the community event.
“At North West, we are proud to sponsor an event that helps strengthen our community, not only here in Winnipeg, but in communities situated in Canada’s North,” said Beth Millard-Hales, Vice President of Human Resources. “It was amazing to see the youth of Winnipeg have such a great time learning about and experiencing the theatre programs offered by MTYP on our nation’s birthday.”
Throughout the afternoon at MTYP, 400 participated in many fun-filled activities including a selfie station, parachute and storytelling games, and puppet making. North West also handed out Canada Day themed beach balls and Frisbees to help event participants enjoy some fun in the sun on our nation’s birthday.
MTYP is a charitable organization that provides professional theatre productions for children and their families. MTYP also helps develop and deliver theatre education programs that concentrate on expressing ideas about social issues such as depression, anxiety, reconciliation and many more. They also provide a travelling theatre program that offers shows to remote communities throughout Canada.
"We're extremely grateful to The North West Company for supporting our Canada Day activities at MTYP," said Debra Zoerb, General Manager of MTYP. "Being able to welcome our diverse community into our unique space is a special opportunity for us to introduce ourselves to individuals and families who we may not already be actively engaging. The North West Company's support allowed us to share the great experiences children and youth can have by participating in our programs and activities. We are so appreciative of the chance to have opened our doors to the public to reinforce our mandate that we are a space for all."
