Students of Levi Angmak School took a very important step towards a healthier diet, thanks to the milk and fresh fruit donated by the Arviat Northern Store.
Northern’s management team visited Levi Angmak School in Arviat, NU on Thursday, April 11 to participate in celebrations for Drop the Pop 2019. A school-based initiative led by the territorial government, Drop the Pop is designed to increase students’ awareness of the effect that sugary beverages have on their health. The goal is to encourage students and other community members to make healthier drink, food and lifestyle choices.
At Levi Angmak School’s Drop the Pop celebration, students participated in activities including hot potato and bean bag toss games. However, the hit of the afternoon was the airplane throw, where students were given the chance to see how far they could throw a paper airplane across the gym.
“Drop the Pop brings much needed attention to the amount of sugary beverages consumed in the North,” said Darren Price, Manager of the Arviat Northern Store. “It’s a great time to introduce healthier choices into the diet of the children. Healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle is a lifelong journey.”
