This video highlights Elder David Fiddler of the Keewaytinook Okimakanak community of Keewaywin as well as Clayton Godfrey, the manager of the Keewaywin Northern Store.
The community of Keewaywin’s Northern Store manager Clayton Godfrey was proud to support the production of The Fur Trade, a video created for the Honouring Our Stories (HOS) project. The HOS project is a series of videos that help people better understand the culture and knowledge base of First Nations Indigenous education.
Throughout The Fur Trade, David Fiddler, an Elder of the Keewaytinook Okimakanak community who is speaking in Keewaywin dialect Oji-Cree, discusses trapping marten and the fur trade in his community. He goes on to talk about sending his fur to North Bay, and how he faithfully checks his traps everyday so he can have a successful trapping season the next winter.
