Minor hockey players in Fort Providence, NWT are the real winners in the local Northern store’s monthly meat draw, which raises funds for equipment and to help the team travel to games.
Northern donates a meat pack for each draw, and staff help sell the draw tickets. For the month of February, Northern cashiers sold $130 worth of tickets.
“The donation of the Meat Packs help make it possible for 30 to 40 community youngsters to take part in youth hockey – it also helps the community who wins the meat pack to feed their family,” said Edward Landry, who runs the minor hockey program.
