Behchoko’s Northern helped bring extra holiday warmth and cheer to people in need for the third December in a row.
The Northern store in Behchoko, NWT has contributed each year to the food hampers put together by The Behchoko Food Hamper Committee. The committee delivered the 300 hampers on Dec 29, just in time for a New Years dinner.
“The hampers help provide the opportunity for these families to share a holiday meal with their loved ones,” explained store manager Anna Sadahat, who has been committed to supporting the cause ever since she was first approached by the committee.
Over the past two years, the store has donated cases of eggs and reusable shopping bags for each hamper. The store also provides the space for the hampers to be assembled and distributed.
Three Northern staff members and three community volunteers put together this year’s hampers in a record two hours and 38 minutes. The hampers included bags of potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy mix, boxes of stuffing, rice, a turkey, frozen vegetables, and dozens of large eggs.
