The village of Kangirsuk, QU is getting help with their community clean up, with a $2,428 grant from the Greener Tommorow program.
Funds were set to go towards volunteers who assist with the clean up around the brook, ditches along the main streets, around the playground, school yards, and Northern lots.
The Greener Tomorrow funds are raised by charging shoppers for plastic grocery bags, while encouraging use of reusable bags.
“I think it is a fantastic thing that the money we pay for the bags we need comes back to the community,” said Lizzie Thomassie, a teacher in the community.
“The Greener Tomorrow Program is important as it makes the communities aware of the things we can be doing to help our environment,” said Joann Vienneau, store manager.
