The community of Coral Harbour is strongly on board with the Greener Tomorrow program, and is benefitting from it too.
Greener Tomorrow awarded the Hamlet of Coral Harbour with a grant of $3,216, which will be used to fund a huge community clean up.
“Community awareness of the program is going to be great this year, and this community will get behind it,” said Dan Leaman, Coral Harbor’s store manager. “We have customers now asking to purchase a bag even before the cashiers have asked them.”
Northern/NorthMart runs the Greener Tomorrow program with the aim to eliminate the use of plastic grocery bags. To encourage the use of environmentally friendly alternatives, customers are charged a fee each time a non-reusable plastic bag is used. Unique to the industry, the program fees are accumulated over the year, with 100 percent of the funds returning to the community to support environmental and social programs.
