Community members in Kuujjuaq stepped into the spotlight in September, in an annual event that allows them to practice and showcase their unique talents.
This year’s Kuujjuaq’s Got Talent, organized by local school teachers, featured throat singers, rappers, a magic act, and musical instrument acts including guitar, violin, and harmonica.
“Kuujjuaq's Got Talent brings the community together and showcases the best of what Kuujjuamiut have to offer,” says event organizer Sarah Russell. “From the four talent shows we will organize this year, we hope to inspire young musicians and performing artists to practice and perform regularly in order to improve their self-confidence and their ability to master a complex skill.”
The community’s Northern location donated $200 worth of prizes for the event.
“It was a great success, and our donation was greatly appreciated,” said store manager Kate Carter.
