Youth from Cross Lake, Poplar River and Split Lake, MB went from running to riding this summer, enjoying a fun-filled evening at the Red River Exhibition in Winnipeg as part of The North West Company’s Healthy Horizons Run Club event.
The Healthy Horizons Run Club program encourages students from northern communities to spend several months training for the Manitoba Marathon and fundraising for the Healthy Horizons Foundation. The Foundation supports youth programs that foster a lifelong connection to physical activity and healthy living.
As a reward, all participants are treated to a three-day event in Winnipeg sponsored by The North West Company.
“The kids had a lot of fun,” said Grand Chief Garrison Settee, of Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak. “I think this experience is something that will last a lifetime in their memories – it’s something they’ll never forget.”
