On June 21st, The North West Company signed Winnipeg’s Indigenous Accord, as a shared commitment to the Journey of Reconciliation in Winnipeg.
Winnipeg’s Indigenous Accord is a document that was adopted by Winnipeg’s City Council in 2017, as a means of guiding a shared commitment in the Journey of Reconciliation. By signing the document, The North West Company became partners to the Accord and agreed to set goals and report on the success of its commitments annually.
The North West Company has made 4 self-identified goals which include generating business development opportunities for Indigenous peoples, working to preserve Indigenous languages, improving employment opportunities for Indigenous peoples, and jointly advocating with Indigenous communities on social and economic issues.
